The Bermuda Health Council Releases 2024 Residential Care Home Facilities Report
[Hamilton, Bermuda] – The Bermuda Health Council is pleased to announce the release of its 2024 Residential Care Home Facilities Report. As the island faces a projected 31% increase in residents aged 65 and older by 2029, this report highlights the current landscape of residential care in Bermuda, revealing significant trends and challenges in providing care for the island’s aging population.
With the demand for residential care beds expected to surpass current capacity, the report emphasizes the urgency of addressing the demand for residential care beds, enhancing regulatory oversight, and improving financial support for families and care facilities.
Key insights from the report include:
- Bed Availability: Bermuda’s 19 licensed rest homes and nursing homes face fluctuations in bed availability driven by staffing challenges, resource limitations, and facility capacity.
- Care Home Fees: In 2023, the average monthly care home fee was $5,147 for rest homes and $5,441 for nursing homes imposing financial pressures for many families.
- Recommendations: The report outlines recommendations to improve Bermuda’s residential care infrastructure, emphasizing the need for better financing options and increased regulatory support to ensure long-term sustainability.
“This report is an essential tool in addressing Bermuda’s growing need for quality residential care,” said a Health Council Spokesperson. “The findings highlight the importance of planning now to ensure all residents have access to affordable, high-quality residential care.”
